Time for a slow cook, set the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit and place a Dutch oven on medium heat on the stove. Brown the meat all around in the Dutch oven to achieve a nice sear. While the meat is browning, peel and coarsely chop the onions, and prepare the crushed tomatoes. Once the meat has a nice sear, remove it and set it aside. Take the Dutch oven off the heat and add the crushed tomatoes and chopped onions. Then place the meat back on top of the tomato-onion mixture.

Put the pot lid on and place the pot in the middle of the oven. Ensure that the pot does not dry out at any point during the cooking time and add water if necessary. An oven temperature of 125 degrees Celsius results in a cooking time of about 5 hours. At 100 degrees, it takes about 8-10 hours (overnight), and at 150 degrees, the meat will be ready in about 3 hours.
The meat is ready when it can easily be pulled apart with the help of two forks. Then shred all the meat and mix it with the tomato sauce, adding water if necessary if the meat feels dry. Season to taste with spices and possibly with barbecue sauce or some form of smoked paprika or chili.
